Trend analysis; 2000's revival
It was never a question of when the early 2000's would make a come back, but rather how often and how tragically.
It's the end of 2017, the earth is dying, the Nazi's are back, and boot cut jeans with matching sneakers are hitting cat walks, I will analyze some 2017 trends with what designers are planning next year.
Demna Gvasalia combines an oversized tea dress with a Vetement x Reebok shoe at the Vetement 2018 Zurich collection.
Jared Leto in a Gucci tracksuit at the 2017 MTV EMAs, he won worst dressed with this outfit.
Balenciaga A/W 2018
Balenciaga S/S 2017
Like the ironic trucker hats that plagued the early 2000's, these disruptive designers are reviving the period with silhouettes that are dripping with subversion. These designers have undergone great effort to create lines that imitate thrift store aesthetics, with models looking like they grabbed ill-fitting clothes out of a goodwill bargain bin, and the new international bourgeois is loving every piece.
My absolute favorite trend is the ugly sneakers, the brainchild of Raf Simons and now proliferating across fashion high and low, with the Balenciaga triple S sneakers being one of the most sought after and hardest to buy pieces of this newly subversive fashion culture. Elegance, simplicity, asymmetry, are discarded into the garbage islands haunting the coasts of Bali, replaced by shoes that are heavy, overworked, and stressed out.
Congratulations to Demna, for convincing the world's wealthiest to look the absolute worst.
